Briefly speaking about the Shivaji Maharaj, he is a king, who was a citizens king and did not belong to any kingdom. Our Maharaj is nothing but a God in human. In true sense, our Maharaj is the king who was awake and aware. Our king was the great king who understood the true meaning of both the words and titles of Chhatrapati and Maharaj and gave meaning to it. Our Maharaj is the king who is still immortal through his actions. Our king was a champion of democracy, elimination of caste discrimination, elimination of superstitions. Our king is the founder of Indian land force, navy. There are many titles, feats and characteristics of our king, If I go to tell all of them, my life will be short, then what’s the deal with the pages of books and the storage capacity of computers?
A person’s identity is his character. He is known by the character. The character of our king is like nectar in a golden cup. Hey! What about our king? But each of our Mawla i.e. maratha soldiers was of such a character that there was no room for doubt here. A good example of this is that our Maharaj and their soldiers always look / treate a women (except her wife) as his mother, sister or daughter (as per her age), so much so that not only the friendly party but also the enemy had so much faith in the character of our king and their soldiers that when a woman of the enemy party disappeared, the enemy suspected his own people but not the Maharaj or his soldiers. On the contrary, they says,
‘त्या स्त्रीला महाराज किंवा त्याच्या मावळ्यांनी पळवणे शक्यच नाही पण जर का त्यांनी तिला पळवीली असेलच तर चांगलेच आहे कारण तिला स्वराज्यात एक तर आई किंवा बहीण किंवा लेक हाच दर्जा मिळेल आणि जर एखाद्याच्या मनात ती भरली असेल तर तिला सन्मानासहीत पत्नीचाच दर्जा मिळेल पण तिच्या अब्रूला कोणीही धक्का लावणार नाही आणि नाही तिची विटंबना केली जाणार’
Translation :
‘It is not possible that the Maharaj or his Mawlas abduct that woman, but if they do, it is better because she will have the status of a mother or a sister or a daughter in Swarajya, and if one is like or love her, then she will have the status of an honorable wife but no one will touch her honor and she will not be vilified’.
This explains the enemy’s belief in our king and their mawlas, the character of our maharajas and mawlas and indirectly the character of Swarajya. What more proofs do we need to explain Maharaj’s character?
