Transportation

Maharaj made full use of land and sea for transportation as well as wars and defense of Swarajya. He built many roads for war and general transportation.

Roadways (जमिनीवरील रस्ते):

Maharaj created and constructed roads suitable for carrying animals like bullocks, horses, elephants, camels, donkeys, bullock carts and palanquins from the banks (कडेकपा-यांमधून) of the Sahyadry (सह्याद्री).

Sea Route (समुद्री मार्ग ):

Chhatrapati created many sea routes along Konkan coast for transportation, trade as well as war and self defense.

Ghat Marg (घाट मार्ग):

The Maharaj built Ghat Marg to reach Konkanstha region from Deshastha region of Maharashtra.

Vehicles (वाहन साधने):

At that time horses as well as horse carts and bullock carts were used as means of transport. Also the dignitaries were transported in a palanquin. Camels, donkeys and elephants were also used for transporting goods at that time.

Mode of Correspondence (पत्रव्यवहार पद्धती):

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj introduced the first Fast Track Post System in India. Along with this, they used to keep tracking of letters. Especially the tracking of foreign correspondence should be done very responsibly. The only difference between today’s fast track post system and tracking system and the system of that time is that now these systems are operated with the help of computer and various technical tools whereas back then these systems were operated by humans and note books.
